ROV Downunder is very pleased to report that Bill Bulloch has recently gained his PMI Project Management Professional certification!
BassLink Repair

The BassLink Interconnector, suffered a fault on the 20th December 2015. The 290km Basslink Interconnector was installed in 2006 and connects the 500kV transmission system in Victoria to the 220kV transmission system in Tasmania as well as provide FO telecom/internet services.
The CS Ile De Re was mobilised as part of the SPMA (South Pacific Maintenance Agreement). Due to the nature of the fact, the repair process commenced with an extensive fault-location process, to localise the fault location, before the cable bundle was cut and the restoration and jointing phases could begin. This involved various testing methods from shore ends, as well as de-trenching activities offshore in an attempt to locate the fault visually.
The repair was extremely challenging and weather dependent, however it was completed in June 2016, when the BassLink Interconnect underwent re-commissioning tests and protection trenching of the final bight area was complete.
Bill was first onboard this vessel, and the sister ship CV Lodbrog, in 2001/2002 during its conversion from a Baltic Ferry to a new Alcatel owned Cableship. Further trips on both these vessels included work on the Apollo Cable, ACMA Maintenance, LFON, SEAMEWE 3 repair and maintenance standby in Bermuda.

Onward and upwards, Bill headed back to the homeland in August 2015 for a welcome Guinness and fresh challenges. Bill joined the Moyle Interconnector Project as Mutual Energy Client Representative on-board the Nexans CV Skagerrak.
The project involved the installation of two new cables between Port Muck in Northern Ireland and Curarie Point in Ayrshire, Scotland.
A challenging project for the 55km cables, including strong currents, proximity to existing 'live' assets and the presence of WW2 unexploded ordinance or 'UXO'.
Cable installation and trenching in 2x seperate campaigns, scheduled from August until November 2015.

Bill has joined a new project, this time in Qatar. Korean cable manufacturer, LS Cable & Systems, has been contracted by Qatar Petroleum to supply and install 2x 132KV Power cables between Ras Laffan and Halul Island, Qatar. Each with an approx. length of 101km and a 100MW capacity to serve the future requirements of the petro-chemical facilities at Halul Island.
Bill will serve as offshore client for LSCNS during the cable trenching phase of the project, onboard Helix Canyons trenching vessel, Grand Canyon. The trenching equipment is already familiar to Bill with a return to iTrencher and a relatively new jetting trencher, T1200. T1200 was designed with a lot of input from the crew of Canyons T750 system. The iTrencher and the older T750 were both utilised in previous projects where Bill was involved, BritNed and Eirgrid.
Project is expected to complete around August 2015.

ROV Downunder is evolving and Bill has decided to leave the hands-on ROV work to Adrian and Alex from AUS-ROV Underwater Inspections and to concentrate his efforts on the the offshore side of the industry.
For the past couple of years Bill has been kept busy with a mixture of Client Representation on cable trenching and installation projects, ROV System Auditing, Offshore Construction Superintendent, Bridge Supervisor and ROV/Trenching Superintendent roles and these are the roles in which he wants to concentrate for the future. As Bill explains, this opens his experience up to dealing directly with end purchasers, contractors, HSE risk assessment and project management, procedural review and implication.
Bill would like to thank all existing and past clients and hope that they support the AUS-ROV team in future onshore ROV operations. Bill will also continue to support future AUS-ROV Underwater Inspections operations if, or when, required. Check the AUS-ROV website at www.aus-rov.com.au/
Bill would also like to thanks all who have sent CV's and inquiries regarding future work with ROV Downunder. It is very difficult to reply to each email and inquiry on this subject especially with this new shift of focus. Bill would like to wish everyone future success on their new chosen career. Remember, the right place at the right time can get you that experience so keep knocking on those doors.
For all future ROV work, please contact Alex or Adrian at AUS-ROV Underwater Inspections on inspections@aus-rov.com.au.
